Message from the Chair

Dear Fellow Rotarians and Partners,

It is a privilege to welcome you to the South Asia Chapter of the Rotary Action Group for Community Economic Development (RAGCED).

We stand at a critical juncture in the history of development. In South Asia, the traditional models of economic aid—while foundational—are no longer sufficient to meet the scale of the challenges we face. The global economy is rapidly evolving into a digital economy, and our approach to poverty alleviation must evolve with it.

As Chair, my vision for this Chapter is to champion innovation as the primary catalyst for sustainable growth.

Economic development in the 21st century cannot be separated from technological advancement. Whether it is integrating FinTech solutions to secure micro-finance transactions, utilizing satellite data to optimize agricultural yields, or providing digital literacy to ensure our youth can compete in the global marketplace, technology is the great equalizer. It allows us to scale our impact faster and more efficiently than ever before.

Our mandate at RAGCED South Asia is to modernize our service.

We are here to assist Clubs and Districts in moving beyond subsistence-level projects toward scalable, tech-enabled enterprises. We must ask ourselves: How can we leverage connectivity to open new markets for rural artisans? How can we use data to better measure the sustainability of our Global Grants?

I invite you to view this Chapter as your strategic partner in innovation. We have curated a network of experts not only in economics but in digital transformation and systems thinking. Together, let us design projects that bridge the digital divide and build an economic infrastructure robust enough for the future.

Thank you for your commitment to a progressive and prosperous South Asia.

Sincerely,

Rakesh Babuji
